Background

The Rater Programme is an initiative within the NIHR Mental Health Translational Research Collaboration Mission Mood Disorders Workstream.

The primary purpose is to collate a registry of rater capacity and capabilities, and establish network-wide inter-rater reliability (IRR). This registry will be included in a network dossier to showcase network expertise and reduce trial start-up times by serving as a precursory feasibility assessment.

To achieve and demonstrate a high network-wide standard of mood disorder assessments, we also provide training to upskill novice raters. We have worked with experienced researchers within the network to develop a comprehensive training pathway and learning resources that are informed by lived-experience as well as research practice.

A skilled workforce of research practitioners with IRR spanning the UK will strengthen our position for industry research collaborations, in turn improving public access to novel treatments for Mood Disorders.

Your Involvement

For the rater register, we need experienced and novice raters to complete a Rater Questionnaire.

This will enable us to collate information on rater capacity and existing competencies, as well as facilitate video rating tasks to demonstrate expertise and establish network-wide IRR.

We will also be able to identify any gaps in experience and give you access to live training, peer support and a library of on-demand resources.

You will be equipped with best practices to provide support for Participant-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) and administer Clinician/Observer-Rated Outcome Measures (CROMs) that are participant-centred and scientifically robust.

Participating in the programme therefore gives you the opportunity to contribute to this important work by honing and showcasing your skills as a well-rounded researcher.
